Education and Training The Canadian Council and the ATU International offer courses for local union officers and members. Since 1985, the ATU has focused on leadership skills, union administration, and the grievance and arbitration processes critical to the successful functioning of local unions. The ATU has developed and presented almost 500 educational seminars. These include grievance workshops, legislative and political action conferences, collective bargaining, organizing, pension, and arbitration seminars. The ATU also leads the way in organizing and sponsoring joint labour/management conferences. Over the last two decades, the ATU has trained nearly 10,000 local leaders in various subjects.
Beginning in the early 1990s, the ATU has added classes in collective bargaining and advanced arbitration techniques, and conferences in labour/management relations. In addition, the ATU has added classes designed exclusively for maintenance department employees. The ATU is a leading advocate for regional labour/management partnerships and have sponsored numerous seminars to support these objectives. Specifically designed programs address the issues facing the many bargaining units we represent including maintenance, school bus, municipal paratransit, and other employees. Education is an important part of the ATU's approach to its locals. These educational offerings reflect the ATU's commitment to making our officers and members the most highly trained labour representatives in both the U.S. and Canada. This commitment will continue unabated into the 21st century. For dates of the next course offerings through the Council and/or the International please check the news items and/or click this link: ATU Announcements For further information please contact us at the council.
